Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not to us in the Jews’ language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.

Then Eliakim and Shebna and Joah said to the Rab-shakeh, Please make use of the Aramaean language in talking to your servants, for we are used to it, and do not make use of the Jews' language in the hearing of the people on the wall.

Τοτε ειπεν ο Ελιακειμ και ο Σομνας και ο Ιωαχ προς τον Ραβ-σακην, Λαλησον, παρακαλω, προς τους δουλους σου εις την Συριακην γλωσσαν· διοτι καταλαμβανομεν αυτην· και μη λαλει προς ημας Ιουδαιστι εις επηκοον του λαου του επι του τειχους.
