Why? Because they were not searching for it by faith, but by works. They came up against the stone which was in the way;

Δια τι; Επειδη δεν εζητει αυτην εκ πιστεως, αλλ' ως εκ των εργων του νομου· διοτι προσεκοψαν εις τον λιθον του προσκομματος,
