And it came to pass, when the king of Ai saw it, that they hasted and rose up early, and the men of the city went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at the time appointed, before the Arabah; but he knew not that there was an ambush against him behind the city.

Now when the king of Ai saw it, he got up quickly and went out to war against Israel, he and all his people, to the slope going down to the valley; but he had no idea that a secret force was waiting at the back of the town.

Και ως ειδεν ο βασιλευς της Γαι, αυτος και πας ο λαος αυτου, οι ανδρες της πολεως, εσπευσαν και εξηγερθησαν πρωι και εξηλθον εις συναντησιν του Ισραηλ προς μαχην, εις ωρισμενην ωραν, επι την πεδιαδα· πλην αυτος δεν ηξευρεν οτι ητο ενεδρα κατ' αυτου οπισθεν της πολεως.
