I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.

And again I saw under the sun that the reward goes not to him who is quick, or the fruits of war to the strong; and there is no bread for the wise, or wealth for men of learning, or respect for those who have knowledge; but time and chance come to all.

Επεστρεψα και ειδον υπο τον ηλιον, οτι ο δρομος δεν ειναι εις τους ταχυποδας, ουδε ο πολεμος εις τους δυνατους, αλλ' ουδε ο αρτος εις τους σοφους, αλλ' ουδε τα πλουτη εις τους νοημονας, αλλ' ουδε η χαρις εις τους αξιους· διοτι καιρος και περιστασις συναντα εις παντας αυτους.
