lest the avenger of blood pursue the manslayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and smite him mortally; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.

For if not, he who has the right of punishment may go running after the taker of life in the heat of his wrath, and overtake him because the way is long, and give him a death-blow; though it is not right for him to be put to death because he was not moved by hate.

μηποτε καταδιωξη τον φονεα ο εκδικητης του αιματος, ενω ειναι εις εξαψιν η καρδια αυτου, και προφθαση αυτον, εαν η οδος ηναι μακρα, και φονευση αυτον, καιτοι μη οντα αξιον θανατου, επειδη δεν εμισει αυτον προτερον.
