And it came to pass that, when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the doors should be shut, and commanded that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I over the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day.

And so, when the streets of Jerusalem were getting dark before the Sabbath, I gave orders for the doors to be shut and not to be open again till after the Sabbath: and I put some of my servants by the door so that nothing might be taken in on the Sabbath day.

Δια τουτο, οτε ηρχιζε να συσκοταζη εις τας πυλας της Ιερουσαλημ προ του σαββατου, ειπα, και εκλεισαν τας πυλας, και προσεταξα να μη ανοιχθωσιν εως μετα το σαββατον· και κατεστησα επι τας πυλας τινας εκ των υπηρετων μου, δια να μη εισελθη φορτιον την ημεραν του σαββατου.

And it came to pass, that when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the sabbath, I commanded that the gates should be shut, and charged that they should not be opened till after the sabbath: and some of my servants set I at the gates, that there should no burden be brought in on the sabbath day.
